TENNIS BOOTCAMP – INTERCITY KIDS GET CHANCE TO TRAVEL, COMPETE, RECEIVE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS

July 3, 2018 Los Angeles, CA

Sixteen intercity children have been selected to travel to Orlando, Florida this summer to compete in the prestigious American Tennis Association’s (ATA) National Championships Tennis Tournament. Their airfare, lodging, ground transportation, uniforms, and food will be paid for by the Pacific Coast Championships Tennis Association (PCCTA), which is the western branch of the ATA. In addition to being able to compete in this 100-year-old tournament that draws top level players from the US and Caribbean, these excited youth will be exposed to a segment of African American history, Science and Technology and just plain FUN with a series of field trips scheduled before the tournament begins (specifically, a reception at Eatonville, Fl – the first African American township founded in the United States; a tour of The Kennedy Space Center; and a day at Disney World).

This is the second year the PCCTA has been able to sponsor children to compete in this tournament. Last year they helped take 15 children to Baltimore, MD and established a tradition of inviting HBCU tennis coaches to not only witness these talented youth of all ethnicities play but also to encourage and direct them as to how their tennis abilities can help pay for their higher education. Two of the older girls in the group were so impressive last year that they were offered – and accepted -  full scholarships to Morgan State University before the tournament ended.

The PCCTA, being a 501(c)3 non-profit, raises funds for its programs, including this one, to offer opportunities to young aspiring tennis players. Many of these children would not be able to do this without the PCCTA’s support so with that in mind, they are holding their “2018 DESTINATION: ATA (or “DATA”) TENNIS BOOTCAMP FUNDRAISER” for this year’s selectees. The children will be put through drills and then play tennis - and the PUBLIC IS INVITED TO JOIN THEM! It’s a perfect opportunity to meet these amazing athletes, get a little exercise and donate to a worthy cause.
